If MF had a pound for every time we heard the excuse “healthy eating is too expensive”, well, we could definitely afford to buy a load of overpriced fancy “health” food. But the thing is, improving your diet doesn’t have to cost the earth – in fact, you can even save yourself money. The key is to pick versatile, economical ingredients that’ll last, like the frozen fruit and veg in the recipes here, which actually offer higher nutrient levels than their fresh counterparts (they’re locked in during the freezing process). Simply whack the ingredients in a blender and enjoy a delicious drink without having to shell out £2 for an Innocent.

Supergreens immunity shake: 28p per glass



  • 50g frozen spinach (rich in flu-fighting vitamin A)

  • 50g frozen kale

  • 1tbsp Greek yogurt

  • 1tbsp honey

  • Pinch of cinnamon

  • Water, to taste


Bulk up berry blast: 60p per glass



  • 75g mixed frozen berries

  • 50g oats (contain high levels of muscle-building protein)

  • 400ml milk

  • 1tbsp honey

  • Water, to taste


Mango energy explosion: 32p per glass



  • 50g frozen mango (packed with focus-improving vitamin C)

  • 50g frozen carrot

  • 1tbsp Greek yogurt

  • Pinch of ginger

  • Water, to taste
